This 3-day Kel-Suu Lake tour from Bishkek takes you to one of the most remote and impressive places in Kyrgyzstan. The journey combines off-road driving, and adventure. You will travel through wide mountain valleys, and stay in traditional yurts.

The highlight is Kel-Suu Lake — a hidden alpine lake surrounded by steep cliffs. You can reach it by hiking or horseback riding through the scenic Kok-Kiya valley. This tour is ideal for travelers who want raw nature, unique landscapes, and an authentic Kyrgyzstan experience away from crowds.

Itinerary

Day 1. Bishkek – Kel-Suu Lake

Early in the morning, we pick you up from your hotel in Bishkek and begin our journey toward the remote Kel-Suu region.

We continue our drive toward Naryn town, where we stop for lunch. Afterward, we head deeper into the mountains. Border permits for this area will be arranged in advance, allowing us to continue toward the remote Kok-Kiya valley near the Chinese border with stops for photo and rest.

The landscape gradually becomes more wild and open as we approach the high-altitude pastures. By evening, we arrive at the yurt camp near Kel-Suu Lake, surrounded by wide valleys and dramatic mountain scenery.

Dinner and overnight stay in a yurt camp or guesthouse.

Day 2. Kel-Suu Lake exploration

After breakfast, we begin our journey toward Kel-Suu Lake. The route follows a scenic trail through Kok-Kiya valley, surrounded by high cliffs and untouched landscapes.

You can reach the lake either by hiking (approximately 2–3 hours one way) or by horseback (optional, extra cost), which takes around 1.5–2 hours.

Kel-Suu Lake appears suddenly between steep rock walls, its color changing from deep blue to green depending on the light. The setting feels remote and dramatic, with almost no signs of civilization.
You will have time to explore the area, take photos, and, if available, enjoy an optional boat ride on the lake.

A picnic lunch is served in nature. In the late afternoon, we return to the yurt camp.

Day 3. Kel-Suu Lake – Bishkek

After breakfast, we begin our return journey to Bishkek.

The drive follows the same remote route back through Kok-Kiya valley and Naryn region, offering another chance to enjoy the wide landscapes and mountain views.

We stop along the way for rest breaks and lunch. By evening, we arrive back in Bishkek.

Clothes & Equipment

You can bring everything you need. Remember that in the summer, Bishkek can get as hot as 40 degrees Celsius, and it can be as cold as minus 5 degrees Celsius in the mountains. Be ready for sudden changes in the weather.

Recommended:

  • Rain-coat
  • Waterproof pants
  • Sweater/fleece
  • Wind-stopper
  • Enough t-shirts and other underwear (think of taking smth with long sleeves to avoid sunburns)
  • Power bank (to charge devices)
  • Hat (remember – the sun can be violent)
  • Sun-screen cream (30 or higher)
  • Insect repellent (skin + clothes)
  • Good, waterproof trekking boots for easy hikes in the mountains.
  • Walking shoes (don’t need heavy ones) for the city walks
  • Personal first aid kit (most likely problems: blisters, sunburns, allergy, diarrhoea, sore muscles after hikes. Take painkillers, anti-histaminic, antibiotics of general action, and anything you need for your usual medical conditions).
  • Personal hygiene kit (disinfection gel is highly recommended) + some toilet paper.
  • A small towel
  • Sunglasses
  • A smaller backpack, except for your normal suitcase.
  • Flash light (torch)
  • Walking poles if needed
